Many of us adore sugar but we all know it’s a bittersweet affair for our tastebuds.
You may not realise that sugar in food comes from many sources other than just processed cane sugars. Sugar also comes from fruit juice concentrate, dried fruits, honey, malts, corn syrup, palm sugar and lactose.
So be sure to read the full ingredients on the pack before you eat anything.
Knowledge is sweet
If you really want to know how much sugar is in the food you’re eating, it helps to convert the amount shown in the nutritional panel into teaspoons. One teaspoon of sugar is equal to 4.2 grams.
1. Have a look at the products serving size and determine if this is how much you or your children will actually eat
2. Check out the sugars column in the products nutritional information panel
3. Divide the amount of sugar listed by 4.2 to work out how many teaspoons of sugar the serving contains

Here are some interesting ones:
250mL of Cola = 6.4 teaspoons*
250mL of Apple Juice = 6.4 teaspoons *
